Module 5 of 8
Recruit and manage the right partners
Find relevant publishers, make a credible offer and build relationships that improve over time.
By the end
Build a focused prospect list and a repeatable partner onboarding rhythm.
01
Segment partners by how they create value
Content, comparison, loyalty, coupon, creator, lead-generation and technology partners influence customers differently. Evaluate their role, audience and promotional method rather than relying on one label.
- Partner type does not prove incrementality.
- Audience fit matters more than list size.
- One publisher may use several promotional models.
02
Recruit with a reason
Strong outreach shows why the brand fits the publisher's audience, what the offer is and what support is available. Generic bulk messages usually create weak responses.
- Reference the publisher's actual work.
- Make one clear next step.
- Do not promise rates or placements you cannot approve.
03
Onboard and develop
Give approved partners links, terms, product context, creative, contacts and launch ideas. Continue with useful updates, performance conversations and fast issue resolution—not newsletters alone.
- Activation is a separate stage from approval.
- Measure time to first meaningful activity.
- Create fair, documented rules for incentives.
Worked example
A focused first list
Instead of contacting 500 unrelated sites, a manager selects 30 partners whose audiences match the product, documents a specific reason for each, and offers relevant assets and an introductory conversation.
Common mistake
Watch for this
Celebrating a large number of approved partners while few have launched. Recruitment volume is not the same as active, productive relationships.
